January 2019 Employees of the Month

We are pleased to announce the first Employees of the Month of 2019!

Our student employees play a big part in making sure that your experiences at FitRec are nothing short of amazing. It’s certainly not easy balancing work and school, but our students make it look easy! We appreciate all of the hard work they put in and their great attitudes. Each month, full-time staff members from various departments nominate student workers who have shown exemplary work ethic within the past month. The winners for this month will receive gift bags, which include T-Anthony’s gift certificates and FitRec swag. If you see the winners around FitRec (or anywhere else on campus!), make sure to congratulate them!

Aquatics: Olivia Pappas

Olivia has worked tirelessly all month long helping to cover many of the open shifts during winter break. Olivia could be counted on for the much needed closing shifts and took on a leadership role with the lifeguards during all of our swim meets.

Climbing: Joey Shim

Joey is a senior this year and has been working at the wall for a few years now. He is a very experienced climbing instructor and teaches many of our adult classes. Joey is not only very responsive in picking up shifts, but also brings a friendly energy and contributes to a welcoming atmosphere at the wall. He is an invaluable member of our staff and we will be sad to see him go when he graduates!

Intramurals: Jack Van Schoick

Jack is a trusted supervisor on our staff who even when weighed down by enormous academic commitments, always finds time to help others via filling shifts and representing the Intramural program. While he himself would never call what he does heroic, it takes a brave employee to feel the weight of responsibility pulling him down only to decide that there is something more important than fear – and that is the needs of his program and his coworkers. We salute you Jack.

ADMIN: Jack “Keith” Malafronte

Jack has been an employee of the Intramural program. A high school basketball star, Jack excelled by officiating our Intramural wiffleball league. When a shift needed to be filled, Jack was there to find someone to work. We wish Jack the best with all of his future endeavors!

Pro-Shop: Lily Kelly

Lily was a huge help over break, covering not only Pro Shop shifts, but provided plenty of help with events and rentals, too!

Facilities: Albana Hysa

Albana stepped up over break and is keeping it up. Albana even trained in the Pro Shop to provide extra support and flexibility! Thank you, Albana!

EMS: Piers Klein

Piers has demonstrated outstanding clinical and documentation skills even during difficult and unusual patient encounters. He remains focused and calm and ensures that the patient is treated effectively. Piers has also acted as a team player, often helping staff with office tasks. Great work, Piers!

Fitness: Jeff Peng

Jeff has been working at FitRec for 3.5 months. His favorite part of working here is that he gets to work in a place where people are constantly trying to better themselves, physically and mentally. During his time here, Jeff has gone above and beyond by consistently lending a hand moving equipment and always coming to work with a positive attitude. Jeff is a first year Doctor of Physical Therapy student aspiring to make rehabilitation become a more permanent part of everyday life for his clients. Jeff is a former BC Eagle, but we decided to hire him anyways.
