To be eligible for renewal of financial aid, you must maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.00 and successfully complete 75% of your attempted courses. Satisfactory academic progress will be reviewed prior to the beginning of each academic year. Boston University also requires that students meet this same standard for credit-based loan certification, including federal, state, and private credit-based loans.<\/span><\/p>\n

Eligibility for federal funds is limited to 6 years of full-time undergraduate enrollment. Eligibility for University and state grants is limited to 8 semesters of full-time undergraduate enrollment.<\/span><\/p>\n

Merit award recipients must meet the <\/span>merit award renewal criteria<\/span><\/a> established for the particular scholarship(s) they are receiving.<\/span><\/p>\n

Credit Hour Requirements<\/h5>\n

At Boston University, to be considered for any form of financial aid- including credit-based educational loans- students must successfully complete at least 75% of the total academic credits that they attempt. Grades of I (Incomplete), W (Withdrew from the course after the withdrawal deadline), and MG (Missing Grade) are included as credits attempted and are not considered successful completion.<\/span><\/p>\n

For transfer students, credit hours that are accepted from another institution towards the educational program are considered upon appeal and will be counted as both attempted and completed credit hours.<\/p>\n

Grade Point Average Requirements<\/h5>\n

The calculation of grade point average (GPA) in determining eligibility for financial aid does not include Physical Development Program (PDP) courses.<\/span><\/p>\n

Students at all grade levels must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00 for renewal of federal, state, and Boston University financial aid, and for certification of all credit-based educational loans.<\/span><\/p>\n

Part-time students must meet the same GPA requirements for eligibility.<\/span><\/p>\n

Grades from enrollment at Boston University during the summer after the academic year enrollment are considered only upon appeal. To be considered for summer financial assistance, students must be meeting SAP at the end of the academic year.<\/span><\/p>\n

Grades received for enrollment at other institutions are not considered in the calculation of GPA.<\/span><\/p>\n

Appealing Unsatisfactory Academic Progress<\/h4>
<\/p>\n

Students who are denied Boston University, federal and\/or state aid, or certification of a private loan because their academic performance falls short of satisfactory academic progress standards are welcome to appeal the decision with BU Financial Assistance.<\/span><\/p>\n

Aid may be fully or partially reinstated for students who appeal with:<\/span><\/p>\n
