How Scholarships are Renewed

Boston University merit awards will be renewed automatically, for up to 8 fall/spring semesters of undergraduate study, provided the recipient meets all renewal criteria for the award.

Renewal Criteria for BU Merit Awards

Most Boston University merit awards require that recipients:

  • Maintain a 2.00 minimum grade point average (GPA).
  • Satisfactorily complete at least 12 credits each semester.
  • Maintain good disciplinary standing.
  • Meet other conditions specified in the Guide to Your Merit Award.

Certain merit awards have additional requirements:

  • The College of Fine Arts Scholarship requires that recipients maintain enrollment at the College of Fine Arts (CFA) and meet criteria determined by CFA and specified in their notification letter to recipients.
  • The Thomas M. Menino Scholarship requires that recipients reside in BU housing on the Charles River or Fenway campus.
  • The Trustee Scholarship requires that recipients maintain a 3.00 grade point average (GPA) and that they reside in BU housing on the Charles River or Fenway campus.

When Renewal Criteria is not met

Students who do not qualify for renewal of their merit awards and need financial aid to continue their education at Boston University may apply for need-based aid, if they meet all eligibility criteria. Students who think their merit awards may not be renewed and who need financial aid should apply for need-based aid by the specified deadline.
