Exit Counseling

Exit Counseling is a Federal Direct Loan requirement. Exit counseling requirements were created to ensure that you understand your rights and responsibilities as a borrowerThe borrower is the person legally responsible for repayment of a loan and who has signed the promissory note.. During the counseling, you will learn how to make repayment of your loans easier, how to get help, and protect your credit rating if you have problems.

Important notes:
  • If you’re a graduating student, your Boston University diploma will be withheld until you complete your Exit Counseling
  • You can complete your Direct Loan Exit Counseling online at the federal studentloans.gov website using your federal FSA ID
  • If you have not set up your FSA ID username and password, click on the “Create an Account” link to create your FSA ID before starting the exit counseling session
