Pressley, whose district includes Boston University,\u00a0wants to use her committee assignment to focus on student debt, public housing, and consumer finance. Each is expected to receive additional committee assignments shortly.<\/li>\n<li>The U.S. Department of Education held the first of three planned negotiated rulemaking sessions to determine <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www2.ed.gov\/policy\/highered\/reg\/hearulemaking\/2018\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new federal regulations governing accreditation, distance learning, and credit hours<\/a><\/strong> on Tuesday.\u00a0The Department intends to release proposed regulations after two additional sessions are held this spring.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>GRANTS NEWS YOU CAN USE<\/h2>\n<p>The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science has released the fiscal year 2019 Funding Opportunity Announcement for its\u00a0Early\u00a0Career\u00a0Research program, open to applicants who have earned their Ph.D. no more than ten years prior to applying. The program supports talented university and National Laboratory researchers\u00a0early\u00a0in their\u00a0career who conduct research on any of the topics covered by the six Office of Science program offices. DOE\u00a0intends to allocate $49 million for the program to support up to 65 researchers, a significant boost over the current year. Mandatory pre-applications are due February 6.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/science.energy.gov\/~\/media\/grants\/pdf\/foas\/2019\/SC_FOA_0002019.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Learn more<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>EVENTS NEWS YOU CAN USE<\/h2>\n<p>The popular\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/research\/news-events\/featured-events-2\/research-on-tap-meet-greet-and-learn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Research on Tap<\/strong><\/a> series hosted by BU Research returns this semester, bringing groups of scholars together to give four-minute microtalks on their research. The gatherings are curated by faculty and followed by a wine and cheese reception where investigators can interact with potential research collaborators. The next talk highlights the University&#8217;s new Urban Climate Research Initiative and is\u00a0hosted by Lucy Hutyra of the College of Arts &amp; Sciences and Patrick Kinney of the School of Public Health.
