President Robert A. Brown<\/a> and Provost Jean Morrison<\/a> hosted a panel discussion organized by the BU Global Development Policy Center<\/a> and BU Federal Relations<\/a> in Washington, D.C. on April 18. Center Director Kevin Gallagher<\/a> moderated a conversation with Jos\u00e9 Antonio Ocampo<\/a>, co-chair of the Central Bank of Colombia<\/a>, and Jin Liqun<\/a>,\u00a0president of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank<\/a>, on the topic.<\/p>\n

As financial leaders from across the world\u00a0convene in Washington to cautiously celebrate what the International Monetary Fund sees as \u201cbrighter prospects,\u201d Ocampo and Liqun discussed the concerns of\u00a0 emerging markets and developing countries\u00a0despite\u00a0the return of synchronized growth in the world economy for the first time since the global financial crisis of 2008.<\/span><\/p>\n

The panel experts also examined whether\u00a0there is justification for such complacency ten years after the global financial crisis and whether\u00a0the return to global growth is a permanent one and in a form that can bring sustained economic development across the globe.<\/span><\/p>\n

This event, titled \u201cBrighter Prospects or Rose Colored Glasses? New Views on the Global Economy,\u201d was timed to coincide with the meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund. More than 100 global development stakeholders and BU alumni participated.<\/p>\n
