Lutchen<\/a><\/span>, dean of Boston University College of Engineering, has been appointed to the National Science Foundation<\/span><\/a> (NSF) Advisory Committee for Engineering, a panel of a dozen leaders from academia and industry that provides advice and recommendations on support for research, education, and related activities to the agency\u2019s Directorate for Engineering<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThe NSF Engineering Advisory Committee provides a variety of perspectives and advice concerning research, education, innovation, and related activities in all fields supported by the NSF Engineering Directorate,\u201d says\u00a0Grace Wang, NSF acting assistant director for Engineering. \u201cWe welcome Dean Lutchen\u2019s contributions to the important work of this committee.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n This committee of external experts reviews the directorate\u2019s program management and performance, and provides advice on the impact of policies, programs, and activities in the engineering field. As a member of the committee, Lutchen will have a voice in determining how the NSF\u2014one of the largest sources of engineering research funding\u2014prioritizes investment areas.<\/span><\/p>\n The committee also advises the Directorate for\u00a0Engineering on how best to promote quality undergraduate and graduate education in engineering, and how the directorate\u2019s mission, programs, and goals can best serve the community. In addition, the committee advises on important issues in institutional administration and policy, among other areas.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI am honored to be part of this important committee that plays such a large role in supporting the nation\u2019s engineering education and research,\u201d says\u00a0Lutchen. \u201cI look forward to contributing the perspectives I\u2019ve gained as a dean, an educator, and a researcher to the committee.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
