Congressional leaders agreed to vote on a package of six appropriations bills next week, paving the way for final fiscal year 2024 budgets for the National Science Foundation, NASA, the Department of Energy, and the National Endowments for the Arts and Humanities.<\/li>\n<li>The House Science, Space, and Technology Committee recently held a hearing &#8220;Examining <a href=\"https:\/\/www.us3.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=bbb26aa6a2e1474a7442d71c6&amp;id=32859725db&amp;e=4a051cec5e\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/www.us3.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=bbb26aa6a2e1474a7442d71c6&amp;id=32859725db&amp;e=4a051cec5e\" data-outlook-id=\"724d0c75-0860-4609-8526-c3da6bc20e04\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Federal Science Agency Actions to Secure the U.S. Science and Technology Enterprise<\/a>.&#8221; Dr. Arati Prabhakar, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, told lawmakers that long-awaited guidance on how universities should operationalize the research security rules established by Congress in 2022 would be coming soon.<\/li>\n<li>On Wednesday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.us3.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=bbb26aa6a2e1474a7442d71c6&amp;id=acbbae4fc9&amp;e=4a051cec5e\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/www.us3.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=bbb26aa6a2e1474a7442d71c6&amp;id=acbbae4fc9&amp;e=4a051cec5e\" data-outlook-id=\"6227867d-b9b5-41b2-9b51-e6881b9b559b\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) announced he would relinquish his leadership role<\/a> at the end of this year. McConnell has led the Senate Republican Conference since 2007. Senate Republicans will choose his successor after the November elections.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>NEW SOCIAL SCIENCE LEADER FOR NSF<\/h3>\n<p>On Thursday, the National Science Foundation (NSF) announced that Dr. Kaye Husbands Feeling will be the new leader of NSF&#8217;s Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences Directorate. Dr. Husbands Feeling is currently dean of the Georgia Institute of Technology Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts and chair of NSF\u2019s Committee on Equal Opportunities in Science and Engineering. She previously served as the inaugural program director for NSF\u2019s Science of Science and Innovation Policy program.
