Cardona\u00a0was previously\u00a0the chief education officer for the state of Connecticut, and\u00a0was endorsed by the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.<\/li>\n<li>Last week, the Senate confirmed Jennifer Granholm as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.us3.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=bbb26aa6a2e1474a7442d71c6&amp;id=30fad2f281&amp;e=4a051cec5e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy<\/strong><\/a>. Granholm is a former governor of Michigan. The Biden Administration has tasked her with achieving a goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.<\/li>\n<li>The Senate Foreign Relations Committee held a confirmation hearing for BU alumna Wendy Sherman (CAS &#8217;71) to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.us3.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=bbb26aa6a2e1474a7442d71c6&amp;id=c0c68794b3&amp;e=4a051cec5e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Deputy Secretary of the State Department<\/strong><\/a>, the second highest position at the Department. Sherman previously served as the lead negotiator of the Iran nuclear deal for the Obama Administration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>GRANTS NEWS YOU CAN USE<\/h3>\n<p>The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Defense Sciences Office (DSO) recently announced an opportunity to meet with DSO program managers to discuss mutual research interests. The meetings will be held in conjunction with the Discover DSO Day webinar in early summer 2021, which aims\u00a0to familiarize and inform researchers on scientific and technical research topics of interest to DSO program managers. To be considered for a meeting with a DSO program manager, investigators must submit an executive summary that describes \u201cinnovative approaches and technologies that enable revolutionary advances\u201d in science and engineering that fit within DSO\u2019s mission.
