Caffeine is the most commonly consumed psychoactive drug in the world. People regularly consume caffeine in coffee, tea, soft drinks and "energy" drinks. Caffeine is found in weight control products, sport supplements, and many over the counter products.

Caffeine, a member of the methylxanthine drug class, increases norepinephrine and epinephrine secretion.  It increases heart rate and basal metabolic rate, promotes secretion of acid in the stomach, acts as a diuretic, and acts as both a vasoconstrictor and vasodilator.
