Boston Medical Center, Family Medicine Center

The Family Medicine Center (FMC) is a busy urban family practice, which opened it doors in October 1997. We practice the full scope of Family Medicine, obstetrics to geriatrics, and perform many office procedures, including gynecologic procedures, minor office surgery, and casting. Colposcopy is also done depending on practitioner availability. While at the FMC you will work with a group of Family Physicians. In general you will work a morning (8-12) and an afternoon (1-5p) session each day, with occasional evening sessions (5:30-8:30p). Evening sessions are compensated with daytime off. Codman Square Health Center

This site is at a community health center in Boston which serves a diverse community (African-American, African-Caribbean, Haitian and Hispanic ) in the Dorchester section of Boston. This very busy center has many programs geared to improving the health of the community in perinatal health, women’s health, nutrition, HIV, and youth services. Students will see patients with several family physicians at the center and will develop an appreciation for the various community programs and the health care delivery system that make the Community Health Centers an integral part of Boston’s neighborhoods. Students will work with both attendings and residents. This site is one of the continuity clinic sites for residents in Boston University Medical Center’s Family Medicine Residency. Access by T. South Boston Community Health Center

The South Boston Community Health Center Family Medicine Department was established in 1998 within the South Boston Community Health Center, which has served the health needs of the South Boston community for over twenty-five years. The Family Medicine Department provides a broad range of services, including preventive health services and treatment of acute and chronic illnesses. Maternal-child health, sports medicine, geriatric health, skin procedures, and incorporation of the psychosocial dimensions of illness into overall management are all areas of particular emphasis in the department. Students will work closely with faculty and senior residents, while having an opportunity for exposure to the myriad of other services available at the health center, including family planning counseling, teen pregnancy outreach, and nutrition services.

East Boston Neighborhood Health Center

The East Boston Neighborhood Health Center offers a complete range of services from pediatrics to geriatrics, including a 24-hour urgent care unit, specialty services, HIV services and a large Elder Service Plan program. EBNHC is one of the largest Health Centers of its kind in New England and has a nationally recognized model of community health care. It serves an economically and ethnically diverse population, including a large number of Spanish speaking patients. In the Family Medicine Department, clerks will work directly under the supervision of attendings. Women’s health (including prenatal care and gynecologic procedures), dermatologic procedures, geriatrics, and general medical care are foci of the department. This site is one of the continuity clinic sites for residents in Boston University Medical Center’s Family Medicine Residency and students will get to work with residents and faculty. Manet Community Health Center

Manet Community Health Center serves the broad health needs of South Shore residents through a Family Medicine model of care. A strong proponent of preventive education and public health activities, Manet collaborates with other community agencies and organizations to identify health related needs and to develop resources to meet those needs. Manet works to ensure that its patients have access to all levels of the health care system, and is especially committed to providing services for the medically underserved. Manet has several centers. The principal site is in north Quincy but there are also clinics in the Houghs Neck and Germantown sections of Quincy, at Quincy Hospital, and a center in the nearby town of Hull. A car is necessary.
