She completed a Fulbright grant in Nicaragua, developing a radio-based pregnancy education intervention, and is fluent in Spanish, focusing on community-based care for the Spanish-speaking population. Her research emphasizes shared decision-making and promoting physiologic birth to reduce primary cesarean rates. Kari has influenced obstetric policies to enhance patient choice and is a clinical consultant for Partner to Decide. As an educator, she developed a physiologic birth lecture series for OBGYN residents and co-founded the breastfeeding medicine clerkship at Boston University.
