Support for Applications for Fulbright Research Awards to Spend a Semester in Greece

The Center for Research on Democracy and Law (https://en.kedid.org/) is a fully independent research Laboratory of the Department of International and European Studies of the University of Macedonia (Thessaloniki, Greece), established in 2020. Within its 3 years of operation, it has, inter alia, hosted 121 members, including Faculty, Research Fellows (postdoctoral level), Experts (postgraduate level), Researchers and Interns, from Greece, the US, Italy, Cyprus, Switzerland, Bulgaria, and Ukraine, has published over 30 research pieces, including journal articles, research papers, academic blogs, etc., and is currently hosting 2 research projects: Observatory of Government Restrictive Measures for the COVID-19 pandemic (GovRM-COVID19; https://en.kedid.org/programs/govrm-covid19/) and Politics and the Justice System of the United States of America (USPOLJUST; https://en.kedid.org/programs/uspoljust/). The research fields of the Center are democracy and governance, international law, EU politics and human rights, the US political and legal system, and Greek politics and law.

The Center is willing to support applications by doctoral candidates of U.S. higher education institutions for the 2024 – 2025 Fulbright-IKY Ph.D. Research Award (https://www.fulbright.gr/en/scholarships-for-us-citizens/programs/fulbright-student-program-fulbright-iky-ph-d-research-award), which provides funding for conducting independent doctoral level research dissertation research purposes in Greece for 6 months. The Center can provide supervision and corresponding advisers for projects that fall within any of the aforementioned research fields. Knowledge of the Greek language is not required.

The application needs to be submitted by the doctoral candidate, who must have secured a support letter from, and have an agreement on the research to be conducted within, the Center ahead of the deadline of applications, which is October 10, 2023 (at 5:00 p.m. EST).
