New BU Employee Technology Orientation
Welcome to Boston University! We are pleased to offer a hands-on technology orientation to introduce you to functions like accessing your BU network account and Exchange e-mail, file storage, and password management. An overview of our help desk support services will also be included. This orientation is separate from the scheduled Human Resources orientation, and is held in your office.
Your supervisor should contact us at ESO-Nethelp@bu.edu or call the NetHelp line at x3-7328 to schedule the orientation for sometime during your first two days on campus.

- Logging into the Enrollment and Student Affairs Network
- Changing network account password
- Using the network drive to store files and documents
- Software (MS Office Suite, HOD 3270, etc.)
- E-mail
- Storage quota
- Reduce Spam – Using your BU e-mail account for business purposes
- Using Microsoft Outlook for creating and sending e-mails
- Finding names in the Exchange Global Address List in Outlook
- Using Outlook Web Access from off-campus locations
- Sending e-mails with confidential information (SecureMail)
- Printing to a network printer – B&W/Color
- Using only ESO-provided technology
- Getting IT Help and Technology Assistance (NetHelp)
- Computer and data security (Password Security, E-mail Security, Virus Protection & Safe Surfing)
