STUDENT DESK ASSISTANTS

The Center for Career Development (CCD) and the Educational Resource Center (ERC) are located in East Campus at the Yawkey Center for Student Services, 100 Bay State Road, on the 5th and 6th floors.

Position Overview

Student Desk Assistants (SDAs) serve as liaisons between the Center for Career Development (CCD) / Educational Resource Center (ERC) and current students, employers, visitors, and other departments and offices at Boston University. SDAs help to carry out the mission of the CCD-ERC by representing both offices in a positive manner while engaging with students and guests in person and over the phone.  SDAs must possess excellent communication, interpersonal, computer, and organizational skills.

We are currently accepting SDA applications for the 2022-2023  academic year.

The application deadline is September 18.


REQUIREMENTS

Student Desk Assistants must:

  1. be undergraduate students at BU in good academic, financial, and judicial standing with the university.
  2. be current undergraduate students (please note, we are not reviewing applicants who intend to graduate in December 2021).
  3. commit to working at least six (6) hours a week over the course of at least two days during the Fall 2021 semester, and, contingent upon performance, will continue as an SDA in the Spring 2022 semester.
  4. commit to attending 2 hr mandatory SDA New-Hire Training-TBD
  5. commit to attending 7 hr mandatory SDA Training -TBD
  6. commit to attending monthly staff meetings on Fridays from 5-6pm.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Student Desk Assistants will be responsible for:

  1. Opening and closing the fifth and sixth floor desks.
  2. Monitoring the fifth and sixth floor study spaces, ensuring spaces remain tidy and are being used properly.
  3. Welcoming and greeting visitors to the CCD-ERC and assisting them with their inquiries.
  4. Answering the phone in a timely manner and taking detailed messages.
  5. Providing support to students in using Handshake to schedule appointments and workshops.
  6. Understanding how to use various computer programs such as TutorTrac, Sling, AirTable, and Outlook Calendar.
  7. Assigning tutors to specific study rooms to conduct their tutoring session.
  8. Checking in students, employers, and alumni at the front desk and informing the appropriate staff member of their arrival when necessary.
  9. Assisting with other projects as assigned by professional staff members.

DATES OF EMPLOYMENT

Fall 2022: Tuesday , September 6 – Friday, December 12, 2022

There will be additional, optional hours available for SDAs to work.  You will be notified by the Staff Coordinators when you are able to express interest in working during the following times:

Day before Thanksgiving Break: Wednesday, November 23, 2022
Fall Reading/Exam Period: Tuesday, December 13- Friday, December 16, 2021
Intersession 2022: Wednesday, December 21- Friday- Thursday, January 19th 2023

FALL TRAINING SESSIONS

Date-TBD : 9:30 AM – 5:00 PM……Fall SDA Training

FALL STAFF MEETINGS

SDA Staff Meetings will take place monthly on Fridays from 5-6pm:

COMPENSATION

Please note that earnings are subject to federal and state income taxes.

Fall 2022 Hours……………………………………………$14.25 / hr.
