When a concern is raised, EOO conducts a fair and thorough investigation. This process includes gathering relevant information, speaking with involved parties, and reviewing applicable policies. Our goal is to ensure all voices are heard and that appropriate steps are taken to address the issue.<\/p>\n<p>Learn more about what to expect during an investigation below or view this printable guide: <a href=\"\/eoo\/files\/2025\/08\/The-Investigation-Process-Updated-7.22.25.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Investigation Process<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\" bu-callout aligncenter\"><\/p>\n<p><strong>Notice<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The investigation begins when EOO issues a Notice of Investigation and Allegations (NOIA) outlining the allegation(s) being reviewed, explaining the investigation process, and identifying the investigator.<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<div class=\" bu-callout aligncenter\"><\/p>\n<p><strong>Initial Outreach<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The investigator schedules individual meetings with the parties. All EOO meetings are voluntary and parties may bring an advisor or person of support.<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<div class=\" bu-callout aligncenter\"><\/p>\n<p><strong>Interviews<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A big portion of the investigation involves interviewing parties and witnesses. While the parties can recommend witnesses, the investigator determines who to interview based on whether they have potentially relevant information.<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<div class=\" bu-callout aligncenter\"><\/p>\n<p><strong>Evidence Collection<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In addition to conducting interviews, the investigator may request and review documentary evidence, including emails, text messages, videos, etc&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<div class=\" bu-callout aligncenter\"><\/p>\n<p><strong>Preliminary Review<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Parties have an opportunity to review and comment on a preliminary investigation report, which summarizes the relevant evidence. Based on the parties\u2019 feedback, the investigator will update the report and may conduct additional investigatory steps.<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<div class=\" bu-callout aligncenter\"><\/p>\n<p><strong>Final Report<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An administrator receives and reviews the final report. Following that review, the parties are provided access to the final report. For non-Title IX allegations, the final report includes factual findings and a determination as to whether BU policy was violated.<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<div class=\" bu-callout aligncenter\"><\/p>\n<p><strong>Hearing (if applicable)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For reports of sexual misconduct that fall under the 2020 Title IX regulations, a live hearing is required after the final report is issued.
