Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action
The Equal Opportunity Office oversees the implementation of Boston University’s Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Policy, and receives and investigates complaints of unlawful discrimination and harassment that are made against Boston University staff or faculty members. (Complaints against students are referred to the Office of Judicial Affairs.)
In addition to conducting investigations of such complaints, we assist managers in addressing issues arising from these situations in the most effective way and, when appropriate, work with managers, the parties involved, and Human Resources to resolve the situation. For information about investigation and resolution of complaints, please see the University’s Complaint Procedures in Cases of Alleged Unlawful Discrimination or Harassment. To better understand the complaint process, please see this flowchart: The Equal Opportunity Process.
Please note that complaints of sex discrimination and sexual harassment are addressed under the Sexual Misconduct Policy and the accompanying Procedures.
