Songs On The Verge - Theresa Wong and Annie Lewandowski (aka Powerdove)

  • Starts: 12:00 pm on Monday, October 5, 2015
  • Ends: 11:55 pm on Saturday, October 18, 2025
Songs On The Verge is an evening of double solo sets by acclaimed composer, cellist and vocalist Theresa Wong and renowned songwriter and improviser Annie Lewandowski (aka Powerdove). At the mercurial crossroads of free improvisation and song forms, both artists engage at the point where the wild, tenuous and malleable sounds of uncharted timbres and extended techniques collide with the crystalline structures of melodies and refrains. Performing on cello, voice, and electronics, Wong's pieces are a relentless digging to unearth the raw vibrations of the materials at hand. Jonathan Pfeffer of WXPN, Philadelphia, writes of Powerdove's music: "Lewandowski’s skeletal vocals nestled amidst house-of-cards instrumental arrangements point to a future where improvisers might be able to bridge the gap between our present thirst for novel timbres and our past predilection for narrative-driven songs." Lecture / Workshop at BU from 12:00-12:50pm in CFA Rm. 281 in 808 Commonwealth Ave. Concert and multimedia performance at Tufts University 8pm at Distler Performance Hall in the Granoff Music Center.
