There are two cases; Computers joined to AD should add printers via the eng-printers server. Computers\u00a0<strong>not<\/strong> joined to AD should add printers directly. Note Laptops are seldom on AD. <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-8\"><\/span><span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-9\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"line874\">Details: <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-10\"><\/span><span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-11\"><\/span><\/p>\n<ol type=\"1\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"line862\">Open a Run Dialog box. A nice keyboard shortcut to do this is <strong>Win + R<\/strong>.<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/engit\/files\/2020\/01\/Windows_R-636x162.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"636\" height=\"162\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1042 aligncenter\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/engit\/files\/2020\/01\/Windows_R-636x162.png 636w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/engit\/files\/2020\/01\/Windows_R-768x195.png 768w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/engit\/files\/2020\/01\/Windows_R.png 861w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 636px) 100vw, 636px\" \/><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>Enter <em>\\\\eng-printers<\/em> into the Run dialog box and click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/engit\/files\/2020\/01\/Run_eng-printers.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"399\" height=\"207\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1043 aligncenter\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Right click on the printer you want to add and select <strong>Connect<\/strong>.<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/engit\/files\/2020\/01\/Connect.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"408\" height=\"261\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1044 aligncenter\" \/><\/li>\n<li>A new window will open briefly showing the progress of installing the Printer. Once it disappears the printer will be installed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Note: If you are prompted for a username and password it means your are not logged in with your BU account. To proceed with you will need to enter your BU credentials; &#8220;ad\\yourBUusername&#8221; (the &#8220;ad\\&#8221; is very important!) and your normal Kerberos password. Expect to lose the connection to the print server occasionally. When that happens you&#8217;ll need to re-add the printer.<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/engit\/files\/2020\/01\/Printer_Credentials.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"455\" height=\"356\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1045 aligncenter\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"PrintingDirectlytoNetworkPrinters\"><span><div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Add Printer Directly<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"line874\">You may choose to print directly to a network printer if your Windows system is not joined to AD Domain or you log into a local account. <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-73\"><\/span><span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-74\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"line874\">1. Download and extract print driver to a local drive. We recommend installing a Postscript driver. You can download the most recent drivers from the manufacturer&#8217;s website: <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-75\"><\/span><span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-76\"><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For example, the Ricoh Drivers can be found here: <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-77\"><\/span>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"line891\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ricoh.com\/support\">https:\/\/www.ricoh.com\/support<\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"line874\">2. Next add a TCP\/IP port: <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-80\"><\/span><span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-81\"><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>From &#8216;Start&#8217; menu: &#8216;Devices&#8217; &gt; &#8216;Printers &amp; Scanners&#8217; (Win 10) or &#8216;Bluetooth &amp; devices&#8217; (Win 11)<\/li>\n<li>Select &#8216;Add a printer or scanner&#8217; (Win 10) or &#8216;Add device&#8217; (Win 11)<\/li>\n<li>A very long list of printers will populate.<\/li>\n<li>Scroll to the end of that list but before currently installed printers, click &#8216;The printer that I want isn&#8217;t listed&#8217; (Win 10) or &#8216;Add manually&#8217; (Win 11)<\/li>\n<li>In the box that opens, select the option &#8216;Add a printer using an IP address or hostname&#8217;<\/li>\n<li>For Device type select &#8216;TCP\/IP Device&#8217;<\/li>\n<li>Enter the printer&#8217;s <strong>IP Address<\/strong>. (<a href=\"#deptPrinters\">listed by department<\/a>\u00a0or provided by ENGIT)<\/li>\n<li>Complete the wizard. <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-87\"><\/span> <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-88\"><\/span><span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-89\"><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"line874\">3. Install the driver: <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-90\"><\/span><span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-91\"><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>At the \u2018Install Printer Software\u2019 click the \u2018Have Disk..\u2019 button <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-92\"><\/span><\/li>\n<li>In the box labeled \u2018Copy manufacture\u2019s files from:\u2019 use the directory you extracted the driver to (e.g. C:\\tmp). <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-93\"><\/span><\/li>\n<li>click \u2018OK\u2019 <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-94\"><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Select the appropriate Print driver <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-95\"><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Name the printer whatever you like <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-96\"><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Print a test page, and don\u2019t share it <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-97\"><\/span><span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-98\"><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<p><span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Additional Methods<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<h5><span>Add Printer via Active Directory<\/span><\/h5>\n<p class=\"line874\">Generally avoid this method, in favor of the previous method, as some printers are not accessible using &#8216;Add Printer&#8217;: <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-19\"><\/span><\/p>\n<ol type=\"1\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"line862\">In Windows 7 open the &#8220;Printers &amp; Faxes&#8221; under the start menu or the control panel. In Windows 10 type &#8220;Devices and Printers&#8221; in the search box beside the Start menu. <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-20\"><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>Choose &#8220;Add a printer&#8221;, select the network printer option, and then the &#8220;Find a printer in the directory&#8221; option. <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-21\"><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Search for printer names (e.g. BME- DIV- ENG- ECE- ME-, etc.) <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-22\"><\/span><\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"line862\">Right click on the printer you want to add and select <strong>Connect<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h5 id=\"PrintingviaLPRonWindows.28PreferredmethodwhennotonAD.29\"><span>Add Printer via LPR on Windows<\/span><\/h5>\n<p>In some situations we may ask you to install a printer via an LPR port <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-109\"><\/span><span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-110\"><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make sure the LPR Port Monitor is present, and add it if it&#8217;s not <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-111\"><\/span>\n<ul>\n<li>Go to Control Panel\/Programs and Features <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-112\"><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Click &#8216;Turn Windows features on or off&#8217;, and expand &#8216;Print and Document Services&#8217; <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-113\"><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Check the &#8216;LPR Port Monitor box&#8217;, and click OK <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-114\"><\/span> <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-115\"><\/span><span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-116\"><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>From the Start menu, select &#8216;Devices and Printers&#8217; <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-117\"><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Click &#8216;Add a printer&#8217; then &#8216;Add a local printer&#8217; <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-118\"><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Choose &#8216;Create a new port&#8217;, then select &#8216;LPR Port&#8217;, and click &#8216;Next&#8217; <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-119\"><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"line862\">Enter the server name, <strong>eng-printers.bu.edu<\/strong>, and queue name (e.g. ECE-PHO321-MPC6501), and click &#8216;OK&#8217;<\/li>\n<li>Add the appropriate printer driver and name the printer. <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-122\"><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"line874\">Adding finisher options for Ricoh printers <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-123\"><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Right-click printer then select printer properties <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-124\"><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Go to &#8216;Device Settings&#8217; tab <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-125\"><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Scroll down to &#8216;Installable Options&#8217; and next to &#8216;Finisher&#8217;, change &#8216;Not Installed&#8217; to &#8216;Finisher SR4030&#8217; <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-126\"><\/span><span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-127\"><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"line874\">Here&#8217;s another post with picture: <span class=\"anchor\" id=\"line-128\"><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"line891\"><a class=\"http\" href=\"http:\/\/campus.mst.edu\/cis\/desktop\/documentation\/pc\/win7_x64\/lpr_printer\/install.htm\">http:\/\/campus.mst.edu\/cis\/desktop\/documentation\/pc\/win7_x64\/lpr_printer\/install.htm<\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Known Issues<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>A number of drivers won&#8217;t play nice when trying to do a &#8220;point and print&#8221; installation from the print server.
