She is the Scientific Director of the<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.damplab.org\/\">DAMP Lab<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>at BU. She was the Founding Director of the BU Precision Diagnostics Center, and currently serves as its Associate Director.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Klapperich holds appointments in the Division of Materials Science and Engineering and the Department of Mechanical Engineering. In 2014, she was elected a Fellow of the<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/aimbe.org\/\">American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering,<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>in 2018 a Fellow of the Biomedical Engineering Society, and a fellow of the AAAS in 2020. She was the<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/me\/2014\/04\/08\/klapperich-selected-as-first-dorf-ebner-distinguished-faculty-fellow\/\">Dorf-Ebner Distinguished Faculty Fellow<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/a>from 2014-2019. In 2020 she won the Department of Biomedical Engineering Teaching Award, and she won the College of Engineering Teaching Award in 2021. Also in 2021, she won a special College of Engineering Award for Societal Engineering for her work building and running the Boston University Clinical Testing Lab during the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/nanoscience.bu.edu\/default.asp\" title=\"http:\/\/nanoscience.bu.edu\/default.asp\"><\/a>Dr. Klapperich earned her Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering in 2000 from the University of California, Berkeley advised by Drs.<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/bioeng.berkeley.edu\/cv\/lpruitt.php\" title=\"http:\/\/bioeng.berkeley.edu\/cv\/lpruitt.php\">Lisa Pruitt<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/a>and<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.me.berkeley.edu\/faculty\/komvopoulos\/\" title=\"http:\/\/www.me.berkeley.edu\/faculty\/komvopoulos\/\">Kyriakos Komvopoulos<\/a>; her S.M. in Engineering Sciences from Harvard University; and her B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Northwestern University.
