Pierson<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/eng\/me\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ME<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/eng\/se\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SE<\/a>) received the inaugural MassRobotics Rising Star in Robotics Medal for her key contributions to the cooperative, distributed control of multi-agent teams. The Rising Star in Robotics Medal recognizes up and coming woman-identifying persons making strides and advancing the field of robotics. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.massrobotics.org\/massrobotics-announces-winner-of-inaugural-robotics-medal-recognizing-accomplishments-of-women-in-robotics-winner-receives-50k\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announcement<\/a> was made at the 2023 IEEE ICRA conference in London.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_144288\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-144288\" style=\"width: 296px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/eng\/files\/2023\/09\/Screenshot-2023-06-25-at-10.38.59-PM-636x467-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-144288\" width=\"286\" height=\"210\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-144288\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Alyssa Pierson (ME)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span>Pierson is a Hariri Faculty Affiliate and principal investigator of the Collaborative Autonomy Group at Boston University. She is chief scientist for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avarobotics.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ava Robotics<\/a>. Pierson\u2019s research interests include trust and cooperation in multi-agent systems, distributed robotics control, and socially-compliant autonomous system design. She focuses on designing robotic systems that interact with humans and other robots in complex, dynamic environments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy endowing the Robotics Medal, we aspire to showcase and celebrate women robotics professors worldwide who have made a significant impact to the advancement of the field of robotics,\u201d said Tye Brady (ENG&#8217;90), chief technologist at Amazon Robotics. \u201cIt is an honor to be the founding sponsor of the Robotics Medal and we are thankful for the significant contributions and teachings made by our rising stars and legendary pioneers in that field.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this spring, Pierson received a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hic\/2023\/06\/25\/three-hariri-institute-faculty-affiliates-receive-nsf-career-awards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NSF CAREER award<\/a>\u00a0to advance research on \u201cDecentralized and Online Planning for Emergent Cooperation in Multi-Robot Teams\u201d.\u00a0<span>\u00a0Learn more\u00a0about this work <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsf.gov\/awardsearch\/showAward?AWD_ID=2235622&amp;HistoricalAwards=false\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>To learn more news of BU&#8217;s Rafik B.
