{"id":116834,"date":"2022-04-22T10:23:33","date_gmt":"2022-04-22T14:23:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/eng\/?p=116834"},"modified":"2022-10-21T16:52:38","modified_gmt":"2022-10-21T20:52:38","slug":"bu-alum-robert-hines-is-on-a-mission-to-the-international-space-station","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/eng\/2022\/04\/22\/bu-alum-robert-hines-is-on-a-mission-to-the-international-space-station\/","title":{"rendered":"BU Alum Robert Hines Is on a Mission\u2014to the International Space Station"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>NASA pilot is one of four crew members scheduled to launch from Kennedy Space Center<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>By Steve Holt<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>NASA is about to send a Terrier into space.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Astronaut Robert Hines will pilot NASA\u2019s SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft to the International Space Station, where the crew of four will study <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/audience\/forstudents\/5-8\/features\/nasa-knows\/what-is-microgravity-58.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">microgravity<\/a>\u2014the condition in which people or objects appear to be weightless. Hines (ENG\u201997) is set to become the first BU alum in space, joining a minuscule slice of humanity\u2014fewer than 600\u2014who\u2019ve ventured beyond Earth\u2019s atmosphere. Fewer than 400 Americans have gone into space, and an even smaller number have gone into orbit.<\/p>\n<p>Hines and his fellow crew members\u2014NASA\u2019s Kjell Lindgren and Jessica Watkins and European Space Agency\u2019s Samantha Cristoforetti\u2014were scheduled to launch from NASA\u2019s Kennedy Space Center in Florida on April 23 and dock to<strong> <\/strong>the space station on April 24. On Thursday, NASA announced the delay of the launch: \u201cno earlier than April 26\u201d (with docking the next day). Both the launch and docking are scheduled to air live on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/live\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NASA Television<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/connect\/apps.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NASA app<\/a>, and the agency\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/nasalive\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website<\/a>.
