{"id":103373,"date":"2021-02-15T12:49:18","date_gmt":"2021-02-15T16:49:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/eng\/?p=103373"},"modified":"2024-03-01T15:47:07","modified_gmt":"2024-03-01T20:47:07","slug":"densmore-elected-aimbe-fellow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/eng\/2021\/02\/15\/densmore-elected-aimbe-fellow\/","title":{"rendered":"Densmore elected AIMBE Fellow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Colbi Edmonds<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Associate Professor Douglas Densmore (ECE, BME) was elected to the 2021 American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering College of Fellows.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_37265\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-37265\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/eng\/files\/2022\/09\/ECE.Faculty.Densmore-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"ECE.Faculty.Densmore\" class=\"wp-image-37265 size-thumbnail\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-37265\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Douglas Densmore<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AIMBE received a record number of nominations to the program, and Densmore is joining a group of select and impactful biological and medical engineers. AIMBE Fellows stand for medical and science innovation, and will contribute to the institution\u2019s mission of advocating for and improving these fields.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cECE senior faculty do a great job helping to promote others in the department,\u201d Densmore wrote in an email. \u201cSelim \u00dcnl\u00fc was vital in my nomination and I thank him for getting me into the pipeline.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Densmore\u2019s research expertise lies in electrical engineering, which he uses to design living systems intended for bio-sensing and bio-remediation applications. Some of Densmore\u2019s research includes fabricating microenvironments to provide controlled devices for testing and deploying living systems, t<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ransforming high-level functional<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> descriptions to DNA circuits, and automating liquid handling robots to assemble DNA.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt is an honor particularly for someone with a PhD in electrical engineering,\u201d Densmore wrote. \u201cReally shows how diverse and interdisciplinary biomedical research has become.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Densmore is the Lead PI on the NSF Expeditions in Computing\u2019s \u201cLiving Computing Project\u201d. He is also an NSF CAREER award recipient, founding member of BU\u2019s Biological Design Center, and former Hariri Institute Faculty Fellow.
