Catherine\u00a0Klapperich and her team built<\/span><\/em>\u00a0a robust COVID-19 testing program with the capacity to test BU\u2019s roughly 35,000 students every three days throughout the semester.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Professor Catherine Klapperich<\/a> was selected by the Boston Business Journal <\/em>along with five BU alumni, another professor, and the CEO of Boston Medical Center for its annual list of the city\u2019s 50 most influential power players. Catherine Klapperich is the\u00a0<\/span>Director of the BU Precision Diagnostics Center<\/a> at the College of Engineering, an ENG professor of biomedical engineering, of mechanical engineering, and of materials science and engineering.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

But this year the criteria were different.\u00a0Instead of calling it the \u201cPower 50,\u201d for 2020 the Business Journal\u00a0<\/em>recognizes \u201c<\/span>Extraordinary Year, Extraordinary People: 50 professionals changing Boston for the better<\/a>,\u201d people \u201cwhose influence, innovation, commitment, and courage are making a difference in the community during an extraordinary time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Those named by the Boston Business Journal<\/em> \u201ceach found their own way to rise to meet the unprecedented challenges that accompanied this past year,\u201d the editorial says. \u201cMany worked behind the scenes, without seeking recognition, while others used their positions of leadership to bring attention to areas that the pandemic and widespread racial reckoning have exposed as badly in need of change.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

While some are well-known leaders who have made the list in previous years, others are making their mark through hard work of a kind not often recognized in such lists.<\/span><\/p>\n

All are \u201cextraordinary people who are quietly helping change Boston for the better,\u201d the editorial says. \u201cAnd that\u2019s something we can all aspire to emulate: In what\u2019s been an extraordinary year by any measure, we can all work to be extraordinarily kind, or generous, or thoughtful of the needs of others. In doing so, we can meet the demands of the moment head-on.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
