Carly Loy found her passion for engineering by accident. She sat in on an engineering class to prove to a friend that it wasn\u2019t worth complaining about. At the time, Carly was studying psychology, and planned to pursue occupational therapy.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I was sitting there, and I was like – I think I really would have liked this. I had three weeks where I didn\u2019t really have anything due, and my friends had a bunch of assignments, so I spent my free time re-learning calculus, and I realized how much I missed it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Now Carly is a foundational LEAP student in mechanical engineering, where she is combining her interest in occupational therapy with engineering. Carly is involved in a collaboration that bridges mechanical engineering and occupational therapy. She works with occupational therapy students to design and create products to help their clients. One of the group\u2019s recent projects was a cookbook stand for a client who is adapting to one-handed cooking.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
