Set enggrad@bu.edu as the approver email.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>International students need confirmation from Graduate Programs Office, before requesting CPT approval on ISSO Portal.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Master's Students<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\">\n<p>The College of Engineering offers an engineering practice degree option to students in all of its master\u2019s programs. To apply for &#8220;with Engineering Practice&#8221;, students must meet the requirements below:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students must be in good academic standing, and have completed one term (two terms for international students) of full-time study within the program.<\/li>\n<li>Internships must be relevant to the program of study.<\/li>\n<li>Obtained internship offers that fulfill one of the following criteria:<br \/>\n1. One full-time paid internship (20+ hours\/week for at least 24 weeks).<br \/>\n2. Two full-time paid internship for at least 12 weeks each.<br \/>\n3. One full-time paid internship for at least 12 weeks AND two part-time paid internships\u00a0 (15-20 hours\/week for at least 12 weeks).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Graduate Programs Office will process the following once we receive all required documents:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students will be registered for ENG EK 697 (part-time) or ENG EK 698 (full-time), both zero units<\/li>\n<li>Students&#8217; degree program will be updated to &#8220;Engineering with Practice.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Students will submit a final internship summary\/report for EK 697\/698 grading. GPO will send an email with instructions near the end of the term.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">PhD Students<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>PhD students should contact your department\/division for internship guidance. International PhD students should also follow the guidelines below.<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">International Students<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\">\n<p>International students must complete<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> two terms<\/span> in full-time status to be eligible for an internship in the United States, and they must complete additional paperwork with the BU International Students &amp; Scholars office (ISSO). The overall amount of CPT that will be authorized is defined by what is required under your degree program. <strong>For the Engineering with Practice degree program, no extensions will be given beyond the degree requirement.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<p>If your internship requires 20 hours (or fewer) of work per week, you will be authorized for part-time CPT. You must register for an additional 4 to 8 units to be certified as a full-time student during the fall or spring term. International students are not required to be full-time students in the summer terms.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>You must have CPT authorized BEFORE you begin work or placement. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Submit your documents to GPO before initiating the CPT request for ISSO.<\/li>\n<li>CPT is authorized by your ISSO Advisor for a specific employer, location, hours and dates.<\/li>\n<li>You should plan to obtain the CPT authorization as soon as you receive an offer. It may take up to 15 business days for GPO and ISSO approval.<\/li>\n<li>You must reapply for CPT If there is a change of employer, location, hours, or dates of employment.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Required Documents<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li><strong><\/strong>Offer letter.<\/li>\n<li>PhD students: Department\/division Support Letter.<\/li>\n<li>Master&#8217;s students: Engineering with Practice Form and Internship Proposal.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Your offer letter from the organization must include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Internship position, compensation, and outline of responsibilities<\/li>\n<li>Name and contact information of internship supervisor<\/li>\n<li>Start and end dates of the internship<\/li>\n<li>Location of internship (in-person, remote or hybrid)<\/li>\n<li>Work hours (full-time or part-time)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Your internship proposal must include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work to be accomplished during the internship.<\/li>\n<li>Why this work is relevant to your program of study.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The department\/division Support Letter must include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Confirmation that the student is making satisfactory academic progress.<\/li>\n<li>Whether the student is pre- or post-prospectus.<\/li>\n<li>If pre-prospectus: the expected prospectus date. If post-prospectus: the expected graduation date.<\/li>\n<li>Start and end date of the internship.<\/li>\n<li>Scope of the internship and how it relates to the student\u2019s research, as described by the advisor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<h3><strong><a href=\"\/eng\/files\/2025\/11\/Engineering-Practice-Approval-Form-2025.pdf\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Engineering Practice Approval Form<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Submit all required documents to enggrad@bu.edu (see &#8220;Required Documents&#8221; below).
