{"id":122220,"date":"2022-08-16T15:36:40","date_gmt":"2022-08-16T19:36:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/eng\/?post_type=bu-program-page&#038;p=122220"},"modified":"2026-04-29T13:12:42","modified_gmt":"2026-04-29T17:12:42","slug":"minor-in-mechanical-engineering","status":"publish","type":"bu-program-page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/eng\/academics\/explore-degree-programs\/minor-in-mechanical-engineering\/","title":{"rendered":"Minor in Mechanical Engineering"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-buttons aligncenter\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><button><a href=\"\/eng\/files\/2026\/04\/Minor-in-ME.pdf\">Application<\/a><\/button>\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\r\n<h2>Requirements<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>A Minor in Mechanical Engineering is earned through completion of 20 units, at least 12 of which are ENG ME courses at the 300 level of higher.<\/li>\r\n<li>No more than 8 credits may overlap between a student\u2019s major and minor.<\/li>\r\n<li>A student must be a Sophomore and have a declared major on record in order to apply for a minor.<\/li>\r\n<li>Students are expected to obtain the necessary background (pre-requisites or equivalents) to complete their chosen minor program.<\/li>\r\n<li>A student\u2019s Grade Point Average (GPA) across all 20 credits for the minor must be 2.00 or higher to earn the minor, with no grade less than a C\u2013.<\/li>\r\n<li>Applications for a Minor in Mechanical Engineering must be approved by the Associate Chair of Mechanical Engineering Undergraduate Programs.<\/li>\r\n<li>It is recommended that students interested in pursuing a Minor in Mechanical Engineering apply as early as possible in their degree program in order to facilitate course planning, but <strong>in no case later than May 1 of a student\u2019s Junior year<\/strong>.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>The following courses may be used to satisfy the requirements of the minor:\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>All ENG ME 300-level or higher courses\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/eng\/courses\/eng-ek-301\/\">ENG EK301<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/eng\/courses\/eng-ek-335\/\">EK335<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/eng\/courses\/eng-ek-408\/\">EK408<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/eng\/courses\/eng-ek-481\/\">EK481<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/eng\/courses\/eng-ek-505\/\">EK505<\/a>, EK546<\/li>\r\n<li>Non-ME courses:<br \/>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/eng\/courses\/eng-be-404\/\">ENG BE 404<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/eng\/courses\/eng-ec-402\/\">ENG EC 402<\/a> (cannot be used in addition to ENG <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/eng\/courses\/eng-me-403\/\">ME 403<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/eng\/courses\/eng-me-404\/\">404<\/a>)<\/li>\r\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/eng\/courses\/eng-be-425\/\">ENG BE 425<\/a> (cannot be used in addition to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/eng\/courses\/eng-me-306\/\">ENG ME 306<\/a>)<\/li>\r\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/eng\/courses\/eng-be-436\/\">ENG BE 436<\/a> (cannot be used in addition to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/eng\/courses\/eng-me-303\/\">ENG ME 303<\/a>)<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><em>Please note<\/em>: The following courses overlap too significantly for credit to be given for more than one course from each list (1-7) below.
