ECE Seminar: Wayne Luk

Title: Recent Advances in Hardware Acceleration

Abstract: This talk presents advances in hardware acceleration of demanding workloads, especially those involving machine learning. It begins with an overview of recent progress in hardware acceleration, covering applications and tools. An approach is then described for speeding up constraint-based causal discovery by shifting performance bottlenecks. Finally, some thoughts about future directions of design automation for hardware acceleration will be provided.

Bio: Wayne Luk is Professor of Computer Engineering with Imperial College and the Director of the HiPEDS Centre, covering high performance embedded and distributed systems. He was a Visiting Professor with Stanford University. His research focuses on theory and practice of customizing hardware and software designs. He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the IEEE, and the BCS.
