2017 Distinguished Alumni Honorees

Bettina Briz-Himes 3Ms. Bettina Briz-Himes
ENG 1986, MS – Electrical Engineering
Senior Director of Strategic Alliances, GoPro Inc.

Bettina Briz-Himes graduated from the College of Engineering in 1986 with a masters in Electrical Engineering. She currently works as the Senior Director of Strategic Alliances at GoPro, based in San Francisco California, where she has been since September 2013. The company is well-known for its durable cameras and also manufactures drones, advanced systems for virtual reality experiences and broadcast, physical accessories, and apps. Additionally, she advises several other California businesses such as Kilopass Technology and 3D Vision Technology.

Since 2011, Bettina has been a member of the ENG West Coast Leadership Council and is a long-time leadership supporter of the College of Engineering.

ENG 1981, BS – Mechanical Engineering
Retired – VP and General Manager, Ametek

Denise Schier obtained her B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the College of Engineering in 1981, where she was also involved in the Society of Women Engineers. She then proceeded to earn her MBA from Northeastern University. Denise recently retired from her role of VP and General Manager of Ametek, which specializes in electronical instruments and electromechanical devices. She had been with Ametek in various positions since 1989.

Denise now sits on several boards including the ENG Mechanical Engineering Committee and the BU Alumni Council. She continues to represent female engineers as the Northeast Ohio Section Representative for the Society of Women Engineers. Denise acted as a moderator for the BU Loyalty Society webcast this year, featuring Professor Ed Damiano. She also served as a keynote speaker at this year’s Order of the Engineer ceremony.

William WeissMr. William Weiss
ENG 1983, 1997 BS/MS – Systems Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering
VP & General Manager of Ground Systems, General Dynamics C4 Systems

William “Bill” Weiss earned his B.S. in Systems Engineering from the College of Engineering in 1983. He then went on to get his masters in Computer Systems Engineering from the College of Engineering in 1997. Bill has worked at General Dynamics Mission Systems for the past 34 years where he is currently the VP and General Manager of Ground Systems.

Bill has been a member of the ENG Dean’s Leadership Advisory Board since August 2015. He is a loyal leadership supporter of the College of Engineering and participated in the Engineers in the Real World Program this year as a speaker.
