Hallie Wyles, Biology to Biomedical Engineering

“I have been above and beyond impressed with my student experience so far. Boston University’s engineering program has such a wide variety of resources,” says BME MEng student Hallie Wyles (’22).

Between the faculty, facilities and program resources I have every tool I need to succeed while earning my master’s of engineering degree in biomedical engineering! So far, I’m pretty impressed with my experience and am excited to dive into my career after graduation in May. I’m going to work in the medical device industry. I’ve already developed one medical device and while doing so, covered nearly every aspect of the product development process. From clinical observation, to need development, to design strategy and regulatory. I had a great job as a graduate student researcher in Manhattan last summer. I worked for a spine surgeon at the Hospital for Special Surgery. I moved to the city knowing nobody except for my mentor. It was an incredible experience!

For one year, I was in the LEAP program and then transitioned into the MEng program full time.LEAP is a great conversation starter with other BU engineering people. As soon as you find another student that started in LEAP, you have an instant study buddy.

I did my undergrad at the University of Washington for biology with a focus in human physiology, so I had completed a lot of the biomedical engineering prerequisites I needed for this program. I always knew I wanted to go into engineering and was thrilled when I found this grad program that focused on medical devices. It was a perfect fit.

Fun fact? I am on Boston University’s Women’s Volleyball team!
