College of Engineering Undergraduate Part-Time Request Form
The College of Engineering expects that all students are enrolled full-time. To be considered full-time, a student must be registered for at least 12 credits a semester. To complete a degree within four years, a student is expected to proceed at the rate of 16-18 credits per semester. Full-time tuition covers 12-18 credits per semester.
Any student* enrolled in fewer than 12 credits in the fall or spring semester is considered a part-time student, and must complete the form below to request part-time status. Failure to do so will result in the student being charged the full-time tuition rate.
Part-time status and/or completing fewer than 12 credits in a semester may jeopardize eligibility for financial aid and scholarships, on-campus housing, health insurance, and other benefits associated with being a full-time student. Students are responsible for contacting the University Service Center and relevant offices to understand how going part-time may impact them before submitting this request form. International students are required to maintain full-time status and must check with the International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO) before attempting to drop to part-time status.
*Seniors with less than 12 credits remaining to complete their degree program do not need to use this form; instead, please contact the Undergraduate Records Office at engrec@bu.edu if you plan to be part-time.
Part-time status may only be requested prior to the last day to drop standard classes without a W grade. Those dates are available for each semester on the Registrar’s website.
