Empowering a rural Kenyan community with access to clean water.

The Boston University student chapter of Engineers Without Borders was featured on Boston 25 News for their work providing a Kenyan village with access to clean water. The students traveled to the rural community of Tinet over the summer as part of the chapter’s ongoing efforts to connect the Ogiek people to safe, reliable, water for drinking and washing.

Using what they’ve learned in their BU College of Engineering coursework, the students designed and installed a borehole, solar-powered pumps, and filtration and storage facilities on site, saving local school-age children a daily five-mile walk for water, which had forced many to choose between education and survival.

Clara Armon (ENG’27) and Omar Elhussini (ENG’27) were among the BU students interviewed for the local news spot.
