Elise Morgan, Dean of the College of Engineering and Maysarah K. Sukkar Professor of Engineering Design and Innovation, has been elected to the World Council of Biomechanics (WCB), one of the field’s most prestigious international governing bodies.
Morgan was elected through a competitive process for council membership. The 40-member council includes 20 elected members from around the world who are leaders in the field, representing the disciplinary breadth of biomechanics. Morgan will serve a 12-year term on the council.
Morgan holds a primary faculty appointment in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and additional appointments in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and in the Division of Materials Science and Engineering in the College of Engineering, as well as an appointment in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in the Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. She was the founding director of the Center for Multiscale and Translational Mechanobiology at Boston University, and she co-directs the University’s Graduate Training Program in Biological Feedback Control. Prior to serving as dean, she was the College of Engineering’s Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Development.
Morgan’s research includes awards from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, as well as membership in the College of Fellows of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering. Dr. Morgan’s research has been cited over 16,000 times and has received funding from multiple federal agencies, foundations, and industry partners.
The World Council of Biomechanics serves as a worldwide forum for exchanging information across all aspects of modern biomechanics and oversees the World Congress of Biomechanics, a global congress held every four years. The newly elected council members will be formally welcomed at the WCB General Assembly on the opening day of the 10th World Congress of Biomechanics this summer in Vancouver, Canada.
