Professor Michael Albro (ME, MSE)

Michael Albro received a PhD in Biomedical Engineering at Columbia University under Dr. Gerard Ateshian of the Musculoskeletal Biomechanics Laboratory, and continued on to do a post doc with Dr. Ateshian, as well.  In addition, he completed a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Stevens Group at the Imperial College of London. His research focuses on a novel aspect of mechanobiology: the investigation of the role of mechanical loading and extracellular matrix interactions on the regulation of signaling molecules in the extracellular environment of biological tissues. He focuses on the progression and treatment of osteoarthritis, and aims to develop innovative molecular-based OA intervention strategies and novel strategies to overcome several of the major challenges in cartilage tissue engineering. Professor Albro has a secondary appointment in the Division of Materials Science & Engineering.
