We provide user training, instruction, and permitting for use of this equipment. In addition, Radiation Safety provides information and guidance for room safety designs, annual inspections, equipment registrations and regulatory compliance.<\/p>\n<h4>Direct and Indirect Bioassays:<\/h4>\n<p>To ensure that exposures to workers are kept \u201cAs Low As Reasonably Achievable\u201d, Radiation Safety has the ability to provide testing\u00a0and analysis for radioisotope uptakes. (Thyroid Direct bioassay , Urinalysis, etc.). Please contact Radiation Safety for more\u00a0information.<\/p>\n<h4><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ehs\/management-plans\/rpo\/radioisotope-safety\/dosimetry\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Exposure Monitoring<\/a>:<\/h4>\n<p>To adhere to all guidance under 105 CMR 120.200, 29 CFR 1910.1096, and other applicable rules and regulations; Radiation Safety evaluates all individuals being exposed or possibly being exposed to ionizing radiation for dosimetric issuance. When issued or requested, Radiation Safety monitors the exposure results on a monthly or quarterly basis with action thresholds 1\/10<sup>th <\/sup>of the state and federal guidance.<\/p>\n<h4>Fetal exposure consultation:<\/h4>\n<p>Radiation Safety provides one-on-one interviews, hands on training, and dosimetry for declared pregnant workers working with ionizing radiation.\u00a0The RSO will also directly\u00a0review an individual&#8217;s job environment and asses involved risks.<\/p>\n<h4>Irradiator use and access services:<\/h4>\n<p>Irradiator use training, support services, and\u00a0scheduling\u00a0for cell and animal irradiation will be provided as needed. Radiation Safety will help potential users with security clearance requirements for unescorted access and use of irradiation devices.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ehs\/ehs-topics\/radiation-safety\/radiation-safety-operational-forms\/irradiator-use-request-form\/\">Irradiator Use Request Form<\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Job specific training:<\/h4>\n<p>Initial and\u00a0annual trainings\u00a0are provided in addition to\u00a0technical assistance for uses of radioactive materials in research and clinical settings.<\/p>\n<h4>Procedure and protocol review:<\/h4>\n<p>Radiation Safety can\u00a0assist with\u00a0operational procedures<strong> <\/strong>and technical review<strong> <\/strong>to ensure regulatory compliance for radioactive material use\u00a0in research and clinical\u00a0environments. Also, Radiation Safety provides direct review of protocols for: research, IRB, RDRC, IACUC- LASC.<\/p>\n<h4>Radiation detection equipment calibration and repairs:<\/h4>\n<p>As a permit requirement annual calibrations are provided by Radiation Safety free of charge as well as any minor repairs. If you suspect your radiation detection equipment is not responding or is out of calibration, do not use this instrument and contact radiation safety for a loaner instrument.<\/p>\n<h4><a title=\"Laboratory Decontamination and Decommissioning\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/researchsupport\/forms-policies\/radiological-decommission-form\/\">Radiological release survey:<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>Radiation safety will provide equipment release surveys for radiological equipment that requires repair, transfer, or disposal.<\/p>\n<h4>Shielding assessment and calculation:<\/h4>\n<p>Radiation Safety can\u00a0assess radiation shielding needs for radioactive material storage and use.
