{"id":100,"date":"2010-05-12T11:48:02","date_gmt":"2010-05-12T15:48:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ehs\/?page_id=100"},"modified":"2024-04-23T08:55:49","modified_gmt":"2024-04-23T12:55:49","slug":"fire-extinguisher","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ehs\/residential-safety-home\/residential-safety-programs-services\/campus-and-clinical-safety\/fire-safety\/fire-safety-resources\/fire-extinguisher\/","title":{"rendered":"Fire Extinguisher Use &#038; Safety"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-360\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ehs\/\"><\/a>Fire extinguishers are located throughout BU and BMC and are available for use by trained employees, if safe to do so.\u00a0 The ABC fire extinguisher is the most common type of fire extinguisher on campus.\u00a0 Please review the fire extinguisher types section of this page to learn more about the various types of fire extinguishers.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A fire extinguisher has a limited capability.<\/li>\n<li>A fire extinguisher is effective on small incipient stage fires.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Before Attempting to Extinguish a Fire<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><br \/>\n<p>You must follow the <strong>R.A.C.E.<\/strong> fire procedure <strong>before<\/strong> attempting to extinguish any fire.<\/p>\n<h5>Rescue\/Remove<\/h5>\n<p>Rescue or remove any persons from the immediate scene<\/p>\n<h5>Alert\/Activate<\/h5>\n<p>Pull the nearest alarm and call 911, then the following numbers:<br \/>\n<strong>CRC:<\/strong> 617-353-2121<br \/>\n<strong>BUMC:<\/strong> 617-414-6666<\/p>\n<h5>Confine<\/h5>\n<p>Close all doors to the hazard or fire area<\/p>\n<h5>Extinguish\/Evacuate<\/h5>\n<p>Extinguish using the closest fire extinguisher if the fire impedes your evacuation.
