Harris<\/p>\n<p data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">This module, based on C<span>hapter 11 of Harris and Roach\u2019s textbook, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/eci\/education-materials\/textbooks\/environmental-and-natural-resource-economics\/\"><em>Environmental and Natural Resource Economics: A Contemporary Approach<\/em><\/a>, provides thorough coverage of the world&#8217;s four main energy challenges:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">Accelerating the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy<\/li>\n<li data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">Electrification of the world&#8217;s energy systems<\/li>\n<li data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">Promoting energy efficiency<\/li>\n<li data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">Reducing energy inequality<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol data-editing-info=\"{&quot;applyListStyleFromLevel&quot;:true}\" start=\"1\"><\/ol>\n<div>While fossil fuels still provide about 80 percent of world\u2019s energy, a transition to renewable energy is well underway. However, the transition needs to be accelerated to meet climate goals. Energy taxes and subsidy reform are two key economic tools to speed this transition. A focus on demand-side energy management is also important, using pricing, informational, and behavioral approaches.\u00a0 Further, additional investment is needed to address energy poverty in low-income countries.
