How to Change the Teaching of Economics

By Neva Goodwin

GDAE Report on a panel at the CommonBound Conference, June 2014

Neva Goodwin moderated a panel on “How to Change the Teaching of Economics” at the CommonBound conference, hosted by the New Economy Coalition in Boston. This panel asked: “Suppose we agree on what should be taught in economics curricula, how can such change be brought about?” The presenters, Helen Scharber, Jigar Bhatt and Keith Harrington, addressed forces that act as barriers against incorporating different content in economics courses, as well as strategic approaches for overcoming these barriers. Dr. Goodwin moderated and prepared this report based on written notes from the panelists and the discussion at the session.
