No one would turn them around.\u00a0 They were charming, unflinching, peaceful, without malice or violence, confrontational, lovingly defiant.\u00a0Fifty years ago this month, students \u2013 young folk \u2013 in North Carolina, stopped at a lunch counter and started and created an international strategy for change \u2013 the sit-in.\u00a0 (No, not gansta, but Gandhi.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 21.0px American Typewriter; min-height: 24.0px;\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.0px;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 21.0px American Typewriter; min-height: 24.0px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1835\" src=\"\/dos\/files\/2010\/02\/Picture-2-384x300.png\" alt=\"Picture 2\" width=\"384\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/dos\/files\/2010\/02\/Picture-2-384x300.png 384w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/dos\/files\/2010\/02\/Picture-2.png 621w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 384px) 100vw, 384px\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.0px;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 21.0px American Typewriter; min-height: 24.0px;\">They established a true ministry and movement of presence. Silent passion and human dignity could change the world.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 21.0px American Typewriter; min-height: 24.0px;\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.0px;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 21.0px American Typewriter;\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.0px;\">What will inspire us to change our world?\u00a0 To create new strategies for change? To join in? Will it be a blog post? A song? An essay? A tweet? A status update?\u00a0 Much respect \u2013 students still matter.
