The following message was sent to all students on Wednesday, September 2, by Dean Campbell-Foster.<\/em><\/p>\n

To our new and returning students,<\/span><\/p>\n

Every fall, everyone wants to know what\u2019s next: your classes, your internship, your five-year plan. Fair questions. But as we start a new year together, here\u2019s one I\u2019d add:\u00a0Who do you want to become?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

BU is transformational. It will change you: introduce you to people, ideas, and questions you haven\u2019t met yet, maybe even a version of yourself you haven\u2019t imagined. That\u2019s the deal. A university is one of the few places where changing your mind counts as progress, not failure. Certainty can turn into curiosity. A plan can be revised. Bring yours, certainly. Just hold it loosely enough to be surprised.<\/span><\/p>\n

That kind of becoming does not happen in a vacuum, though. It happens in a specific place, alongside a lot of other people who are also mid-transformation, so before we get back to the big questions, here is what is worth knowing about that place and our shared values as a community.<\/span><\/p>\n

With nearly 40,000 students across hundreds of programs, there\u2019s no single way to be a BU student. What connects us is shared responsibility for the community we build together. A few things worth knowing before you need them:<\/span><\/p>\n
