When the city turns shamrock-green bright,<\/span><\/i>
\n<\/span>And the parade fills the streets with delight,<\/span><\/i>
\n<\/span>Have\u00a0fun with your crew,<\/span><\/i>
\n<\/span>But be thoughtful there too \u2014<\/span><\/i>
\n<\/span>Let your neighbors sleep soundly that night.<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dear Students,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I hope\u00a0you\u2019ve\u00a0had a restful spring break. For those who spent time away,\u00a0we look forward to welcoming you back to campus over the next few days.\u00a0Spring is in the\u00a0air,\u00a0and\u00a0this weekend\u00a0marks a\u00a0celebratory\u00a0time\u00a0in\u00a0Boston. The\u00a0city\u00a0turns green for St. Patrick’s Day.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As you head out,\u00a0remember that being a BU student means\u00a0representing\u00a0this University and our community everywhere you go, including the streets of Boston and in the neighborhoods many of you call home.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Before you go\u2026<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Think ahead.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>
\n<\/span>Know where\u00a0you’re\u00a0going, who\u00a0you’re\u00a0with, and how\u00a0you’re\u00a0getting home. Share your plans with someone you trust\u00a0and check in with one another throughout the day.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Look after each other\u00a0(and yourselves)<\/span><\/b>
\n<\/span>BU’s\u00a0<\/span>Good Samaritan<\/span><\/a>\u00a0policy exists for a reason. If someone needs help, get them help. No one should hesitate to call for\u00a0assistance\u00a0out of fear of getting in trouble.\u00a0Know how alcohol\u00a0affects you, keep your beverage in sight, and stay hydrated.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Respect\u00a0our\u00a0neighborhoods<\/span><\/b>
\n<\/span>Many of you may join the festivities in\u00a0Southie or\u00a0choose to stick close to home and be with friends in nearby neighborhoods. Remember that families, residents, and visitors share these streets with you.\u00a0Keep noise down, avoid overcrowded gatherings, and be mindful of sidewalks,\u00a0streets,\u00a0and property. Being a good neighbor goes a long way.\u00a0<\/span>Special note<\/span><\/i>:\u00a0the Boston Police Department\u00a0shared this\u00a0message\u00a0with\u00a0all college students.\u00a0Please\u00a0<\/span>read it here<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Know your limits and stay grounded<\/span><\/b>
\n<\/span>Stay off rooftops, overcrowded decks, and\u00a0away from\u00a0open windows. Injuries from falls are among the most common\u00a0(and most preventable)\u00a0of this weekend every year. Stay on solid ground,\u00a0literally and figuratively.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If you ever need support, turn over your Terrier Card for the numbers you need to call for help.\u00a0Enjoy the weekend, celebrate responsibly, and look out for one another.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
