Please refer to the memo that corresponds with your style of residence.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Dorm Memo<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dear Resident Student:<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Residence Life would like to remind you of the following important dates and information regarding your residence hall closing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><u>End of Semester and Closing Information<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you are a <u>non-degree candidate (non-graduating student)<\/u>, you must move-out of your residence by <strong>12 noon, Saturday, May 10.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>If you are a <u>degree candidate (graduating student)<\/u>, you must move out of your residence by <strong>10 a.m., Monday, May 19<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>24-hour quiet hours begin at <strong>5 p.m.<\/strong>\u00a0in all residences <strong>Thursday, May 1 and remain until Friday, May 9 at 5 p.m. <\/strong><\/li>\n<li>No overnight guests are allowed from<strong>\u00a0Thursday, May 1 \u2013 Friday, May 9.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Overnight guests are allowed, and the regular academic year guest-policy applies, for students approved to remain in residence from <strong>Saturday, May 10 \u2013 Monday, May 19.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students who arrange with <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/housing\/summer\/\" data-outlook-id=\"1d92531f-c100-4c00-a53b-8666dcb828b1\">BU Housing<\/a><\/u>\u00a0for on-campus summer housing are welcome to remain in residence until 10 a.m. on <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/housing\/summer\/calendar\/\" data-outlook-id=\"b6b71379-43ba-4066-a6a5-3e9ada824764\">summer transition day<\/a><\/u>\u00a0Monday, May 19.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you are not a degree candidate, or a student who is arranging for on-campus summer housing, and you need to remain in housing past 12 noon, Saturday, May 10 due to a serious, extenuating circumstance, then you have an opportunity to apply for a move-out extension with your Residence Life office. Please visit your local Residence Life office to inquire about this application process. <u>Please note, applications will be reviewed but extensions are not guaranteed to be approved. Extensions will be approved on a limited basis.<\/u><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beginning at 8 a.m., Saturday May 10, <strong>Residence Life staff will be entering rooms <\/strong>to verify that non-degree candidates who are not approved to stay, are vacating their residence by the deadline of 12 noon.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beginning at 8 a.m., Monday, May 19,<strong>\u00a0Residence Life staff will be entering rooms <\/strong>to verify degree candidates and anyone who was approved to stay are vacating their residence by the deadline of 10 a.m. Students transitioning to summer residences will also need to move out of their spring residence by 10 a.m.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Please take the following steps to ensure a successful move-out:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Throw out all trash and recycle your recyclables.<\/li>\n<li>Close all windows and lock all doors.<\/li>\n<li>Pack and remove ALL items. The space should be empty.<\/li>\n<li>Report any damages to your Residence Life office.<\/li>\n<li>Return your key\/s to your Residence Life office.\u00a0 After business hours please use the key drop box and QR code outside of your Residence Life office.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Mail and Packages: <\/strong>Mailrooms will operate regular hours through Thursday, May 1.\u00a0 Beginning Friday, May 2, mailrooms will be on a Monday \u2013 Friday, 9 a.m. \u2013 5 p.m. schedule. Before leaving campus, students are encouraged to visit their mailroom and collect any packages being held or first-class mail remaining in their mailbox.\u00a0 Beginning Monday, May 19, items left in the mailroom will be forwarded or returned to sender.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re moving off campus from a dormitory-style residence, always remember to update your home address in the <u><a href=\"https:\/\/student.bu.edu\/MyBU\/\" data-outlook-id=\"e33d30e7-a74d-4d01-8484-e1b8a648c4be\">MyBU Student Portal<\/a><\/u>, so that your USPS mail can be forwarded. Some of the approved parking lots may have a lowered parking gate. The QR code found on your permit can be scanned at entrance and exit kiosks to raise gates during your move-out period. You may also use your phone to capture the QR code for use when scanning to raise these gates, however, your permit must still be printed and displayed on the dashboard of your vehicle.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Bikes<\/strong>: Reminder: do not leave bicycles or scooters in BU bike rooms over the summer. <strong>Unauthorized bikes left in bike rooms will be impounded.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Bike Room Closings:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Howard Thurman Bike Room: Wednesday, April 30<\/li>\n<li>Harry Agganis Way Bike Cage, Rich Hall Racks, Nickerson Field Racks: Saturday, May 10<\/li>\n<li>All remaining Bike Facilities: Saturday, May 31<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Any bikes or scooters left in these spaces after the above dates will have their locks cut and they will be impounded. Please visit the <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.packstoreship.com\/2\/Boston-University-Student-Storage\" data-outlook-id=\"6009b3cc-05c9-49f5-98db-1e3132c09544\">UPS website<\/a><\/u>\u00a0for details. Students who utilize UPS Storage will be provided with boxes as a part of the cost of using the storage program.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Boxes: <\/strong>The university will not be providing boxes for students during move-out. Please look into the UPS Storage program if you need assistance in storing or shipping items.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Goodwill Not Landfill: <\/strong>Every year, Boston University runs the <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sustainability\/projects\/goodwill-not-landfill\/\" data-outlook-id=\"5d6235fd-a1f0-4eb6-b3a4-4fa8b41ee7e8\">Goodwill, Not Landfill<\/a><\/u>\u00a0(GWNL) donation and recycling program to divert waste from landfills and incinerators while supporting our local community. Participating in Goodwill, Not Landfill, helps to reduce your environmental impact by extending the lifespan of household items. Last year, the BU community was able to donate and recycle over 225,000 pounds of materials as part of GWNL.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>This year\u2019s program is running from Saturday, April 26, through the conclusion of move-out.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ALL major residence halls will have a series of bins for you to donate items. Check out the <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sustainability\/projects\/goodwill-not-landfill\/\" data-outlook-id=\"6b4cb0b1-1d9d-48b5-aab8-579bfa099b74\">BU Sustainability website<\/a><\/u>\u00a0to find the closest location to you. Along with household items, BU collects <strong>non-perishable<\/strong>\u00a0food items that go to the <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/studentwellbeing\/bu-food-pantry\/\" data-outlook-id=\"c2c3f82b-63f1-4d8f-9084-3ef68a1ffa96\">BU Food Pantry<\/a><\/u>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Below is the list of acceptable items for the Goodwill, Not Landfill program. All students must vacate their academic year assignments by <strong>10 a.m. on Monday, May 19,<\/strong>\u00a0to allow BU Facilities to clean and prepare rooms for new students moving in later that afternoon.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Summer residents should plan ahead and be ready to complete their check-out by <strong>10 a.m.<\/strong>\u00a0at their spring Residence Life office.\u202f<strong>Temporary luggage storage<\/strong>\u00a0will be available on campus on <strong>Monday, May 19,<\/strong>\u00a0to store belongings during the transition period between check-out and check-in.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Check-in for summer assignments will take place between <strong>4 p.m. and 8 p.m.<\/strong>\u00a0Students may be permitted to move in earlier as rooms become available, but some rooms may not be ready until <strong>8 p.m.<\/strong>\u00a0QR codes with real-time room status updates will be available at all check-in locations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This would require the previous room occupant to move out promptly before 10 a.m. <u>The earlier students move out, the earlier students can move in. <\/u><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, as we approach the study and exam periods, please keep the following points in mind related to safety and security in the residences:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Keep the door to your room\/suite\/apartment locked and lock your bedroom door when you are asleep.<\/li>\n<li>Lock your door whenever you leave your room\/suite\/apartment, even for a brief period. Communicate with your roommate\/s about also locking the door when they leave.<\/li>\n<li>Always take your key and BUID with you when you leave your room\/suite\/apartment.<\/li>\n<li>In large halls, you should not sign in a visitor who is not known to you. Remember, you are responsible for the conduct of anyone you bring into your residence.
