Travel in groups.<\/li>\n<li>When going to a party or a bar, always use the buddy system.<\/li>\n<li>If you go out alone, tell your roommates or a friend where you are going and when you expect to be back. If your plans change, call to let them know.<\/li>\n<li>When walking on campus, follow well-lit paths and avoid alleyways.<\/li>\n<li>Be alert to your surroundings and know the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/maps\/?lat=42.34312489659957&amp;lng=-71.10682547092439&amp;zoom=14&amp;blue_box=on\">locations of the emergency blue-light phones<\/a>. Learn more on the BUPD website, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/police\/safetyoncampus\/emergency-call-boxes\/\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Check your directions in advance and know where you are going.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid potentially dangerous situations.<\/li>\n<li>Walk purposefully.<\/li>\n<li>Do not carry large sums of cash.<\/li>\n<li>Be cautious of people asking for money or assistance.<\/li>\n<li>If your wallet is stolen, report the loss to the BUPD immediately and contact your credit card companies as well.<\/li>\n<li>If you feel uneasy or threatened, change direction, cross the street, locate and use a blue-light emergency phone, or enter a store or place of business.<\/li>\n<li>Carry a mobile phone, and change to use a pay phone.<\/li>\n<li>Do not allow yourself to be left alone in an unfamiliar situation.<\/li>\n<li>Do not drink anything that you did not open or mix yourself.<\/li>\n<li>Trust your instincts.<\/li>\n<li>Use your peephole to identify anyone who knocks on your door before you open it.
