{"id":2597,"date":"2011-01-12T11:00:21","date_gmt":"2011-01-12T16:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/dos\/?page_id=2597"},"modified":"2019-01-18T22:53:40","modified_gmt":"2019-01-19T03:53:40","slug":"martin-luther-king-jr-day-commemoration","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/dos\/martin-luther-king-jr-day-commemoration\/","title":{"rendered":"Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Commemoration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Monday, January 21, 2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>1pm<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Metcalf Hall, 2nd floor, George Sherman Union<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The City of Boston and Boston University, in partnership with the Museum of African American History, featuring the music of the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra&#8217;s Intensive Community Program and Boston University&#8217;s Inner Strength Gospel Choir, are pleased to announce the Commemoration to honor the life and legacy of the University&#8217;s great alumnus, Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s keynote speaker is newly elected U.S. Congresswoman <strong>Ayanna Pressley<\/strong>, who serves the 7th District of Massachusetts.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Congresswoman Pressley, the event will feature a welcome from The Honorable <strong>Martin J. Walsh<\/strong>, the Mayor of the City of Boston.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Porsha Olayiwola, <\/strong>Poet Laureate of Boston,\u00a0will open the event.\u00a0<\/span><strong>L&#8217;Merchie Frazier<\/strong> will offer remarks on behalf of the Museum of African American History. Dr. <strong>Robert A. Brown<\/strong>, the President of Boston University, will offer closing remarks.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra&#8217;s Intensive Community Program<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Boston University Inner Strength Gospel Choir<\/strong> will provide several musical performances during the event.<\/p>\n<p>This event will be ASL interpreted and CART will be provided.
