The City of Boston and Boston University, in partnership with the Museum of African American History, featuring the music of the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra’s Intensive Community Program and Boston University’s Inner Strength Gospel Choir, are pleased to announce the Commemoration to honor the life and legacy of the University’s great alumnus, Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.<\/p>\n

This year’s keynote speaker is newly elected U.S. Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley<\/strong>, who serves the 7th District of Massachusetts.<\/p>\n

In addition to Congresswoman Pressley, the event will feature a welcome from The Honorable Martin J. Walsh<\/strong>, the Mayor of the City of Boston.<\/p>\n

Porsha Olayiwola, <\/strong>Poet Laureate of Boston,\u00a0will open the event.\u00a0<\/span>L’Merchie Frazier<\/strong> will offer remarks on behalf of the Museum of African American History. Dr. Robert A. Brown<\/strong>, the President of Boston University, will offer closing remarks.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra’s Intensive Community Program<\/strong> and\u00a0Boston University Inner Strength Gospel Choir<\/strong> will provide several musical performances during the event.<\/p>\n

We encourage attendees to use public transportation. The George Sherman Union is on the Boston University Central stop on the B portion of the MBTA Green Line.<\/p>\n
