  • Starts: 12:00 pm on Wednesday, January 30, 2019
  • Ends: 1:30 pm on Wednesday, January 30, 2019
The 2018 elections ushered more women into public office than any other single election in American history. And, since the election, many women in office are creating a lot of news. This talk and discussion will give us an opportunity to understand more about how this came about, what is happening now, and what the future may bring.

Virginia is an internationally-recognized expert on women and politics. She came to Boston University in 2007 to become Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences. Before that she was the Sophonisba P. Breckinridge Professor of Political Science at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, where she worked for 31 years. In 2015, after eight years of serving as Dean, she stepped back from that position to resume teaching and research as Professor of Political Science. A member of the American Academy of Arts & Science since 2002, her most recent publication is an article titled, “Sexual Harassment: Performances of Gender, Sexuality, and Power”.
