Message from Dean Elmore – September 4, 2010

Dear Friends,

I am sad to inform you of the loss, today, of one of our own.

Adam Robert Engel, a junior in the School of Management, died this morning of injuries suffered from a fall in the Doubletree Guest Suites Boston.

Adam is from Old Bethpage, New York, and was studying accounting. He was active within the School of Management community and an outstanding student.

I know that you join me in conveying our deep sorrow and sincere condolences to Adam’s family and friends.

The loss of any student is troubling. Support for students, faculty, and staff who know Adam is available throughout the University. Our chaplains are available in Marsh Chapel for anyone who feels the need to gather for group or personal prayer, or to speak with a chaplain or religious advisor (you may reach the chaplains at 617-353-3560). In addition, our counseling services are available through the Behavioral Medicine Clinic at Student Health Services, at all hours, throughout the weekend. You may speak to a member of the counseling staff by calling 617-353-3569. I ask everyone in our community to volunteer support to anyone who may need it.

We will provide additional information, as it becomes available, through BU Today, including information about funeral arrangements and any on-campus memorial observance.

Our community has suffered a great loss. During this time I encourage us to reach out to each other, and our families, in sympathy and support.

Kenneth Elmore
Dean of Students
