AR/VR Community

Extended Reality (XR) is advancing rapidly and according to industry experts, the future of learning and workplace training is connected to immersive learning technology. Digital Learning & Innovation (DL&I) has seen a surge of interest and Incubator proposals from Schools and Colleges across Boston University looking to explore augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and mixed reality (MR), and integrate these technologies into the teaching and learning experience.

With this trend in mind, DL&I, in partnership with the Center for Teaching & Learning and Educational Technology teams, launched a BU faculty and staff community group to explore the purposeful use of virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and extended reality technologies at Boston University and beyond.

Focus Areas

The faculty and staff AR/VR/XR Community Group will focus on the following three principles:

Exploring how virtual reality technology is being piloted at BU.

Experiencing the technology via hands-on and interactive education; build technical skills and investigate ways to incorporate XR into practice.

Engaging with BU faculty, Educational Technologists and Instructional Designers; share your vision, ask questions, and collaborate with BU colleagues and XR early adopters.

Benefits of Participation

Meet with other XR enthusiasts on campus. Connect with other faculty members who share AR/VR/XR interests and passions.

Teach. User groups are a rewarding way for you to share your expertise. Someone may have helped you learn about technology; now you can repay the favor while meeting new people and making new contacts.

Attend talks and events. DL&I will host a variety of informal and formal events throughout the year—specifically around Extended Reality and invite BU and invited guests to demonstrate use cases and best practices within higher education.

Commitment

The group collaborates virtually synchronously and asynchronously.

Opportunities to Connect

AR/VR/XR Faculty & Staff Connector: Our mission is to provide opportunities for conversation, training, immersion, and workshops for Augmented and Virtual Reality and to connect BU faculty and staff with a learner-centered approach to enhancing education through Xtended reality.

Find campus resources. Nothing beats the personal connection of interacting with faculty and staff members on campus and exploring available, university-wide resources.
