Specific Policies and Procedures

Exams

Disability & Access Services, where appropriate, and subject to the approval of the Dean of the student’s School or College, may recommend that a student with a qualifying disability be permitted to use a computer with word processor as a form of academic accommodation during examinations.

Before contacting Disability & Access Services to borrow a laptop computer, students should first check with their Professor in order to determine if there is a computer that can be used within the Professors office or within the academic department.

Procedure for Requesting a Laptop from Disability & Access Services

If the use of a computer with word processor is one of your accommodations and you are unable to obtain access to a computer through your professor or corresponding academic department, you may request to borrow a laptop computer from Disability & Access Services.

You must request a laptop computer at least two weeks prior to the date of the exam. A separate request form must be submitted for each exam.

Disability & Access Services will need the following information:

  • Both your name and the name of your professor
  • The name of the class in which you are taking the examination
  • The date of the examination
  • The name, phone number, and e-mail address of the person to whom Disability & Access Services will be delivering the laptop computer. In most cases this will be your professor, a teaching assistant, or an individual within the academic department.
