How long have you been at BU? I have been at BU for just under a year
Most embarrassing moment? When I was in middle school, I signed up for the chorus even though I was awful at singing. During one of our classes, we were all singing this song, which happened to be my favorite song at the time when my teacher told everyone to stop because “something didn’t sound right at all”. Then she said “Madison, don’t sing this time” and had everyone else go through the song again. When they finished, she said “much better”! Found out I was in my own little world and was singing at the top of my lungs without realizing it. Needless to say, I’m always aware of my volume when singing now.
Hobby or unusual talent? I love DIY (do it yourself) projects!
Advice for new students? Truly immerse yourself in the BU community. Get involved, meet neighbors in your dorm, go to events on campus, etc. Also, don’t be afraid to ask questions. Faculty and Staff are always available to help answer any questions and support you. If they are not the right people to answer the questions, they can help lead you to people that may be more suited to help
How did you get into this work? When I was in graduate school, I worked as a study abroad advisor and conducted research on study abroad students’ well-being and the need for support. During that time, I noticed that many students with disabilities had difficulties and unfortunately didn’t receive the support that they needed. After graduation, I decided to change my focus from study abroad to working with students with disabilities in higher education.
What is the best way to make friends at BU? Get involved! Whether it’s in student activities, study groups, fitness classes, etc.
