This innovative reusable container program is designed to reduce packaging waste in support of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sustainability\/projects\/zero-waste-plan\/\">BU&#8217;s Zero Waste Plan<\/a>. By participating in the Choose to Reuse program, you can help Boston University achieve its sustainability goals while also taking steps to protect the environment.<\/p>\n<p>Since Choose to Reuse launched in the GSU Food Hall in February 2023, we have <strong>decreased the use of disposable containers by more than 83%!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/dining\/files\/2026\/05\/Choose-to-Reuse-Update-May-2026-1-254x636.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"254\" height=\"636\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-47064 aligncenter\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/dining\/files\/2026\/05\/Choose-to-Reuse-Update-May-2026-1-254x636.png 254w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/dining\/files\/2026\/05\/Choose-to-Reuse-Update-May-2026-1-768x1920.png 768w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/dining\/files\/2026\/05\/Choose-to-Reuse-Update-May-2026-1-614x1536.png 614w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/dining\/files\/2026\/05\/Choose-to-Reuse-Update-May-2026-1.png 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 254px) 100vw, 254px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Choose to Reuse program is open to students, staff, and faculty and available at:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>GSU Food Hall &#8211; Basho, Dipped, El Comal, Halal Shack, Panda Express, Rhett&#8217;s, The Coop, and UrbanTable<\/li>\n<li>Saxbys &#8211; <em>available for in-person orders too!<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Fuller&#8217;s Pub &#8211; takeout available through Grubhub<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <strong>disposable container fee<\/strong> at participating locations is <strong>$2.50<\/strong>. <span>Additionally, <strong>Saxbys<\/strong> offers reusable cups as part of the Choose to Reuse initiative, with a <strong>$1.00 fee for disposable cups <\/strong>for Grubhub and in-person orders. By selecting either &#8216;Choose to Reuse&#8217; or &#8216;Dine In,&#8217; you&#8217;ll <\/span>save money and reduce waste!<\/p>\n<p>Choose to Reuse and get rewarded!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Caught Green Handed<\/strong>: Each week, a few students who are seen around campus with a Choose to Reuse cup or container will be &#8220;Caught Green Handed&#8221; and rewarded with a small prize!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Choose to Reuse Loyalty Program<\/strong>: Choose to Reuse members who place at least 15 Choose to Reuse orders within a calendar month will receive $10 off a Choose to Reuse order the next month. Before placing your first reusable to-go order in Grubhub, you\u2019ll be asked to acknowledge the terms and conditions of the program. You can also sign up <a href=\"https:\/\/app.reusepass.com\/bu\">here<\/a>, if you want to join the program before placing an order.<\/p>\n<p>Once you\u2019ve acknowledged the terms and placed your first reusable to-go order, you\u2019ll get access to your ReusePass account. From there, each time you order to-go at a participating &#8216;Choose to Reuse&#8217; location, you\u2019ll unlock your personalized ReusePass QR code on the Grubhub app.<\/p>\n<p>A dining hall team member will associate the reusable container(s) with your account \u2013 just like checking out a library book!<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" id=\"combos\" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">I want to place an in-person order at Saxbys, can I still  participate in Choose to Reuse?<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Yes! You can place an in-person Choose to Reuse order\u00a0 if you have already signed up for the program in Grubhub.<\/p>\n<p>Request Choose to Reuse when ordering and present your unique ReusePass QR code when picking up your order. The QR code on your phone will be scanned and connected to the QR code on the container(s)\/cup(s) in your order.<\/p>\n<p>To access your ReusePass QR code, log into your ReusePass account by going to app.reusepass.com\/bu and logging in using your cell phone number. Select &#8220;Open Pass&#8221; in the top left corner. When you place your first reusable to-go order via Grubhub, a ReusePass account will automatically be created for you.<\/p>\n<p>You can access your account at any time by going to<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/app.reusepass.com\/bu\">app.reusepass.com\/bu<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>and logging in using your cell phone number.<\/p>\n<p>You can also access your account through the Grubhub App. Go to Orders at the bottom of the App, select any order you have placed at a participating Choose to Reuse location, then select Track your Containers. This will take you directly to your ReusePass.<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" id=\"combos\" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">What happens once I've checked out my first container<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p><span>Once you check out your first container, you\u2019ll receive an SMS from ReusePass with details on how the program works and a link for how to access your ReusePass account. Containers are due back 3 days after checkout. If you fail to return within that 3-day window, the container will be marked as &#8220;Late&#8221;. You have 48 hours to return a &#8220;Late&#8221; container, containers that are not received by the end of the &#8220;Late&#8221; window will be liable for an $8.00\/container charge, charged two weeks after the checkout window was opened.<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" id=\"combos\" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">On my ReusePass account, what's the difference between 'Due soon' and 'Late'?<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Containers that are shown under the \u201cDue soon\u201d section of your ReusePass account are containers you have recently checked out that are still within the 3-day checkout window and have not yet been scanned in by a team member.<\/p>\n<p>Containers that have not been returned by the end of the 3-day checkout window will be marked as late. Don\u2019t worry, late doesn\u2019t mean charged! Once a container is late, you have 48 hours to return it. Containers that are not received by the end of the late window will be liable for an $8.00 charge. Dining Points will be charged first, and if not sufficient or not available, Convenience Points will be charged second.<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" id=\"combos\" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Are the reusable to-go containers microwave safe?<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Choose to Reuse containers are no longer microwaveable.<\/strong> We have introduced RFID technology into the tracking process to improve the program.
